He brought me to the banqueting house,
and his banner over me was love.
Song of Solomon 2:4
As believers in Jesus Christ, we have the power of love from the Most High God flowing in and around us at all times. He is love. The love of God covers all of His virtues and demonstrates his generous, majestic attributes, unifying them together in perfect harmony (Colossians 3:12-14). God has secured in our hearts a continual flow of love. But we can allow that flow to be abruptly stopped when we begin to worry, allow anxious thoughts to overtake us, or harbor resentment toward others. In Old Testament times, a banner symbolized victory, celebration, and expressed thanks. It was a reminder that the Lord won the battle. It was the Lord whose banner they followed into battle and the Lord is the one who claims the victory. Don’t allow the enemy to pull you away from the secure arms of the Father and run toward unbiblical ways of thinking. God holds His banner of love over you and cheers you on to victory in all of life’s situations.
Prayer
Abba, Father. Thank you that I am a child of God and am led by your Holy Spirit. You are such a gracious Father who frees us from the spirit of fear (Romans 8:14-15). Bring to remembrance the depth of your love for me, and that whatever situation I am facing, Lord, give me the strength and patience to endure the trial. Thank you that your banner of love goes before me in battle, on to victory. Remind me to release my hold on destructive thoughts and stand me up on the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
